For me, it is what you put out into the world, rather than what you take in, that more truly defines who you are.
So what matters is not the education you received, but how you express yourself to the world.
Holding to this belief, I often urge myself to write my thoughts down.
Technology 🍅
Most people who click into this page want to know my “functional side” rather than the whole person, so what I keep here is mostly technical. My thoughts on everything else live somewhere else :). Care to go looking? 👀
Technology interests: Agent Memory, Multi-agent Systems, Game Theory Algorithms, Agent-based Simulation.
My Website 🍅
This website was born in restless, disoriented years, like a piece of driftwood that let me catch my breath in the current.
When I write here, it feels like being seventeen again, solemnly setting down delicate, weighty words on gridded A3 composition paper.
At the start of my final year of high school, my Chinese teacher’s first question to me was, “Narrative or argumentative?” Not yet grasping what she meant, I answered, “Argumentative. I love writing those.” She said, “Good. From now on you write only argumentative essays, all the way to the gaokao exam hall.”
And so those delicate, weighty words were, every one of them, argumentative essays.
Designing the look of this site, after so long, I finally had a patch of ground I could dress up however I pleased, a place to wear my character out loud, as if back in the days of collages and hand-made journals.
Pulling myself out of the tangled loops and nested brackets of front-end JavaScript, I said to a friend, a little carelessly, “Surely no one just throws a template on their personal site?” The moment it left my mouth I froze inside, faintly uneasy at the disdain that had slipped out before I had thought it through.
A little reckless, a little abrupt, and yet I like the spirit in it. Yes: I want nothing to do with the template kind of thing, least of all in a place that is meant to stand for a person. I don’t want anything to flatten me down. I have no love for people or things that hold no attitude.
What I said to myself that day was, I have always been someone with character, someone who loves to express.
AI Influence 🍅
To be born into an era like this leaves me both uneasy and thrilled. Sometimes, thinking of the sheer pace of the times and the changes taking shape all around, my palms grow faintly damp.
The field I work in is a peculiar one, where the technological tide turns every few months. One thing I rather like about it: everyone here is a student; everyone has to keep growing.
The road has not been smooth for me. Often I feel my attention and my sense of direction swept under by the flood of the AI age, and the explosion of compute and intelligence makes my own strength feel very small.
I love how AI lets me turn the smallest idea into a product with ease; and yet I dread the cost to my own thinking, the lag in understanding, as too great a stream of information runs through my hands. I am grateful that it frees me from the trivia of engineering and leaves me more time to refine architecture, but I also fear that, because of it, I may slowly lose the patience to polish the fine details, growing ever less able to bear painstaking work.
The noble mind is not mastered by things. In this flood, I want to keep one small stream safe.
Water murmuring and cool; birdsong clear and pure.
I need both time and effort to guide my interests toward the right direction, and I hope in the end to feel out a way that is my own. For now, I am moving toward a clear goal. In my spare time, I am also a product creator and someone who shares in the AI space.
Thanks 🍅
Thank you for reading this far.
In an era like this, that one person would sit and earnestly read words written by another; I only have to imagine it, and I am deeply moved.
